TNG Limited is committing extensive resources to the proposed development of the Darwin TIVAN® Processing Facility (DPF), which will be connected to its flagship Mount Peake Mine.
The DPF is proposed to be located at 658 Channel Island Road, Weddell; within the Middle Arm Industrial Precinct, approximately 15km southeast of Darwin. TNG will treat magnetite concentrate from the Mount Peake mine site using its patented TIVAN® process, which will enable the extraction and production of three high-value strategic elements – titanium dioxide, vanadium pentoxide and iron oxide – for export to customers globally from Darwin.
The DPF is being assessed under the Northern Territory Environmental Assessment Act 1982 with transitional provisions under the Environment Protection Act 2019 (EP Act), and is a controlled action under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The relevant controlling provisions under the EPBC Act are: Listed threatened species and communities (sections 18 & 18A) and Listed migratory species (section 20 & 20A).
The Draft EIS was submitted to the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) in late 2019 and its public review occurred between 30 November 2019 and 21 February 2020. Subsequently, TNG received a “Direction to Prepare a Supplement to the Company’s Draft EIS” from the NT EPA.
The EIS Supplement was submitted to the NT EPA on 1 February 2021. Following the public review period, which ended on 19 April 2021, and the subsequent examination of the EIS Supplement, the NT EPA has asked TNG to provide additional information under clause 14(2)(a) of the Environmental Assessment Administrative Procedures 1984. The Direction requires TNG to provide additional information on 23 matters based on submissions from the NT Government agencies and the Environment Centre NT and details instructions for the Company’s response.
Further details on the Environmental Impact Assessment being undertaken by the NT EPA on the Darwin Processing Facility and related documentation can be found on the NT EPA website.
TNG updates on the status of the EIS can be found on the ASX Announcements page.
